School Programs

Untitled document

As part of our regular operations, our department in cooperation with the West Seneca Central School District and most of the private schools in the Town of West Seneca run an extensive program of instruction that is tailored to the needs of children and different levels of education.Patrol Officer's teaching in the schools

These programs start in the primary grades with presentations by our officers that help to teach children that the police are their friends and are there to help you.  The programs change each year as children move ahead in grades and include presentations on such subjects as vandalism, shoplifting, drug and alcohol abuse. child abuse and other subjects that children experience as they grow up.

Patrol Officer's teaching in the schoolsIncluded in this area is the DARE Program which is taught in the elementary schools at grade five and at the middle school in grade seven.  Officers from our department are also trained to teach a DARE curriculum that is appropriate to high school students.  When utilized this instruction is presented in health classes at both high schools.

In addition to these programs, our officers work with the Health and Physical Education Department of the West Seneca Schools and present up to date information on issues of steroid use and other substance abuse by athletes during their middle and high school years.

Before a program is presented or any modifications are made, the curriculum is presented to the West Seneca Central School Board for their review.  Through the Director of Health and Physical Education for the West Seneca Schools, the curriculum is reviewed to meet the standards for which it is being presented and to make sure it meets with the directives of the Board of Education for the West Seneca Schools.
