Are You OK?

Telephone Check-In Program

Program Contact:
Dispatcher Richard Galli

The Are You OK? program is designed for older adults, disabled persons, shut-ins who live alone, or anyone in West Seneca who needs to be checked upon daily. Are You OK? is a computerized telephone calling system which will be operated free of charge by the West Seneca Police Department.

The system calls each enrolled subscriber every day of the year at the same time of day. When the subscriber picks up the phone he or she will be asked to press a number on their telephone dial pad. They will be then greeted by a recorded message. If the subscriber fails to answer the telephone after several attempts, or if there is a busy signal several times in a row, the computer immediately notifies the police dispatcher who will then send a patrol car to check on the person.

During the holidays, vacations, or any other time the subscriber plans to be away, a simple call to the police department at 716-674-2280 will stop the calls for as long as needed.

The system is now in use in over 183 cities & towns throughout the United States and Canada and it has saved a number of lives and reduced worry and anguish for countless citizens and their family and friends.

There will be no charge of any kind for this service.

It is very important to understand that Are You OK? is not intended to take the place of LifeLine, Life Phone, or any other service which a person is now using. In fact, we urge people to use LifeLine or similar services in addition to Are You OK?.

The Are You OK? calls will be made in the morning between the hours of 7:00am and 11:00am. Each subscriber will be asked to choose an hour during which he or she prefers to be called and the calls will always be made in the same order so people will quickly learn exactly when to expect them.

Everyone who signs up for this service will be asked to fill out a short form with medical and other information which the police may need in an emergency. This information will be totally confidential. It will be kept under lock & key at the police department and only be used by police if needed.

If you wish to sign up, or if you think you might be interested and would like to talk about it with someone, please call West Seneca Police Dispatcher Richard Galli at 716-674-2280, Saturday through Wednesday between 8:00am and 4:00pm.
