In conjunction with the West Seneca Central school district, trained officers from our department teach both the elementary and middle school D.A.R.E. programs.
Our officers are selected and sent to a 2-week D.A.R.E. Officer Training course to receive the elementary and middle school curricula. Upon graduation from the intense training course, the officers are qualified to teach both courses. D.A.R.E. America continuously updates and modifies the courses to keep up with current subject matter, in cooperation with experts from the fields of science, research, prevention, education, and medicine to include topics relevant to students all the way up to grade 12.
The D.A.R.E. elementary program is a 10-week program, with additional lessons on bullying prevention, vaping, and prescription medications.
Each student receives a D.A.R.E. planner notebook with all the lessons inside. Each lesson is designed for kids to think about issues that may lead them to use drugs and then complete projects in the handbook that help them re-enforce these ideas and thoughts.
Under the guidance of one of D.A.R.E. instructors, kids learn a number of ways to say no to drugs and alcohol. Upon completion of the program each school has a graduation program and celebration. Each student that successfully completes the program receives a D.A.R.E. tee-shirt and diploma.
